The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (Siobhan) Directed by Katheryn Bilbo Northwest Missouri State University 2024

My primary theatrical interest is in the area of performance! I love learning new dialects, techniques, and characters to tell their stories.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time

In our production of Curious, I portrayed Siobhan and had an absolute blast! The role challenged me in many ways, allowing me to learn a new dialect (A laid-back RP) and to be able to act on the grid. It was also challenging to portray a character older than myself. Our production also didn't include any set pieces other than projectors and some stage cubes, which allowed the blocking to be more rigid than in other productions.

Radium Girls

This was one of the most intense shows that I have worked on. I was cast with five characters, all with vastly different personalities and characteristics. We used a scrim for our production with platforms in the back, so there weren't necessarily quick changes, but rather putting on different coats, hats, etc. Switching characters so quickly and often throughout the show took a lot of focus and pushed me as an actress, along with keeping the dark mood of the show in the rehearsal space and not carrying it home with me pushed me as a person.

Miracle on South Division Street

In this show, I portrayed Ruth Novak, the black sheep of the family. During this production, I was challenged with keeping high energy. It was a straight play, and I was on stage for the entire 90 minutes. Along with that, this show was highly comedic which meant that we really needed to keep high energy in order to keep the audience engaged. I worked a lot on not giving away the end, and not playing up the comedy. My character was the bringer of bad news and often progressed the plot forward, so being intensely memorized was extremely important.

Little Women

This was such a fun show for me to approach as an actress. Meg March is often one of the more overlooked characters in the story, and I wanted to bring her forward as the fiercely loving older sister that she is. This was a period piece, and I learned corset techniques as far as breathing and movement go. Having limited mobility meant having a lively character was even more important, and when I did move it was with purpose. We put our set into the corner, meaning we were partially in a thrust which was a new challenge as well, finding good moments to face and connect with a new part of the audience.
