As I have begun my journey as a freelance theatre worker, I have found myself in multiple Stage Management and Direction roles, which have expanded my skillset.
Anastasia
Assistant Director
I learned a lot from working as an Assistant Director for Anastasia with Carousel Community Theatre. Much of my job included running rehearsals on the occasion that our Director was gone, making rehearsal reports at the end of every night, leading warmups with our star-studded cast, and assisting with problem-solving throughout the rehearsal process. I had a blast working with this team!

Red Riding Hood
Stage Manager
My most recent project has been stepping into the role of a Stage Manager for the Des Moines Community Playhouse's production of Red Riding Hood! Many of my responsibilities have included sending daily calls to the cast, composing and sending rehearsal reports, and production meeting reports. I also created a run sheet, was on book for line notes, took down blocking notes, created and called all of the cues for the show, and set/took down the space before and after each rehearsal. One challenge that I faced during the run of this show was that I was not assigned an Assistant Stage Manager, so there were many times I was asked to multitask and take on more of the production. It definitely had a learning curve, but I overcame this challenge by spending more time in the space with the script to get many tasks, such as my run sheets, completed earlier than necessarily needed so that I could have more of my focus on the things that were most pertinant to rehearsals. I also filled the role of Light Board Op for this production and learned how to better cue myself and my wonderfully talented Sound Board Op while completing all of my Stage Manager duties.
God of Carnage
Assistant Stage Manager
As the assistant stage manager for The Shady Lady: A Robust Blend of Privilege, Influence, and White-Collar Crime, I took blocking notes and line notes. I also ran the hazer/fog machine during the fire sequence. During intermission, I went on stage dressed as an office janitor to sweep banana bread crumbs out of the carpet. Before and after every performance, I reset the space, vacuumed, and accounted for all of our props. I was also an assistant stage manager for God of Carnage and was in charge of line notes and prop handoffs. I assisted in baking a clafouti every night of the production.
